Fullerton Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of the Presidents’ Business Achievement Awards at the monthly Sunset Mixer on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. The awards program recognizes corporations and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the business, professional, and educational communities. The recipients will be recognized by the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce at the Annual Presidents’ Business Achievement Awards Dinner on Wednesday, June 15 at the Summit House Restaurant in Fullerton.
Being honored as Small Business of the Year is McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, owned and operated by the third generation of family leadership, Bill McAulay. Fullerton’s own Bootlegger’s Brewery is being recognized as Medium Business of the Year. Yokohama Tire Corporation will be honored as Large Business of the Year. Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Services (FIES) will be presented with the Quality of Life Award, recognized for its community contributions as a non-profit organization. Rounding out the awards is Jim Williams, being honored with the Hawkins Business Leadership Award (formerly Chamber Member of the Year, renamed in honor of Past President Linda Hawkins) for his dedication and investment in the Fullerton business community.
“Each year, the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce solicits nominations from its membership for companies and individuals to be recognized for outstanding accomplishments in the areas of business and community involvement,” noted Chamber Past President Kevin Pendergraft, CEO of Pacific Community Credit Union. “The event will also serve as the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting and Board of Directors Installation, with Honorable Dick Ackerman as Master of Ceremonies.”
Small Business of the Year, McAulay and Wallace Mortuary, will celebrate their 100th anniversary in Fullerton this September. This company is one which is sensitive to their clients’ needs, while generally quietly keeping a low profile until their services are required. Funeral counselor Suzanne Stover describes owner Bill McAulay as “giving of time and talents to Fullerton and surrounding communities.”
Medium Business of the Year, Bootlegger’s Brewery, began as the brainchild of experienced home-brewer and proprietor Aaron Barkenhagen, who developed the business concept and wrote the business plan while enrolled in the Entrepreneurship Program at California State University, Fullerton. As envisioned, the concept would be a small artisan brewery supplying the local community and beyond with fresh, unique, handcrafted beer. After nearly a year of development and construction, Bootlegger’s Brewery was born in April 2008. With the support of family and friends, Aaron continued to lead the development and build out of Bootlegger’s Brewery, resulting in a seven barrel brew house with three fermenters and plenty of space to keep growing.
Yokohama Tire Corporation is dedicated to sustainability not only in its international endeavors, but its US headquarters in Fullerton, where it has been since 1986 and is being honored as the 2011 Large Business of the Year. The manufacturer employs 150 people who, in December of 2010, planted nearly 500 trees in honor of the company’s “forever forest” campaign, an event capping off a week of green activities. This organization also conducts blood drives with the American Red Cross and raised over $9,000 to aid relief efforts in Japan following the March earthquake and tsunami.
Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Services (FIES) has demonstrated positive, proactive, ongoing efforts to improve the community as the 2011 Quality of Life Award recipient. The nonprofit organization is devoted to providing food, transitional housing, support, and prevention services to the hungry, homeless, and less advantaged of North Orange County. Their motto is to provide “a hand up, not just a hand out” during their 35 years of service.
Jim Williams, President of Williams Co. Insurance Brokers, and recipient of the 2011 Hawkins Business Leadership Award, is committed to serving the community through the Boys and Girls Club, Fullerton Downtown Business Association, Rotary Club, WTLC, Fullerton Sister City Association and more. This third generation owner recognizes the importance of investing in his business and the community.

Hi – I am on email list from Muckenthaler Center and got an email about this trip – which I have promptly misplaced or deleted by mistake:(. I need more information, . Can someone resend that email to me, and also advise me of total days and return date. (I calculated a return date of 1/15, but want to be sure. Also, I did not see prices listed in the article, but I recall they were a little over $2000 for a double. ALso – what is the due date for payment? Not sure what you mean by “ZOOT”? Would it be possible to get the same group tour air fare – but extend the trip once in Spain? I would like to see some additional places and stay 2 weeks longer. What is the weather like in Spain in early January?
Thank you for getting back to me asap.
